Planetary Gear Components – 4-Planet

Planetary Gear Components: Powder Metallurgy,4-planet carrier and ring gear for compact, high-torque transmission.

Brief introduction

Planetary Gear Components – 4-Planet

Our Powder Metallurgy Planetary Gear Components feature a four-planet configuration with a precision planet carrier, four planet gears and an internal ring gear.

The planet carrier maintains the position and alignment of the planet gears, while the internal ring gear engages with the planet gears to form a compact planetary transmission arrangement. Planetary systems are valued for their coaxial layout, compact size and ability to distribute transmitted load among multiple planet gears.

Key Features

  • 4-planet configuration for distributed load transmission
  • Precision planet carrier for accurate planet gear positioning
  • Four matching planet gears
  • Internal ring gear for compact coaxial transmission
  • Compact and space-efficient design
  • Suitable for high torque density transmission systems
  • Powder metallurgy manufacturing for efficient production
  • Custom gear ratios and dimensions available

Planetary Gear Components

The assembly shown consists of:

  • Planet Carrier – supports and positions the planet gears
  • 4 × Planet Gears – rotate on their own axes and engage with the mating gears
  • Internal Ring Gear – surrounds the planet gears and meshes with their external teeth

A complete planetary gearset may additionally include a Sun Gear, depending on the transmission configuration.

Advantages of Planetary Transmission

Planetary gear arrangements provide several important mechanical advantages:

  • Compact coaxial design
  • High torque capacity relative to package size
  • Load sharing among multiple planet gears
  • Multiple speed-ratio configurations
  • Suitable for reduction, speed increase and other transmission arrangements

The input, output and stationary members can be configured in different combinations to achieve different speed ratios and torque characteristics.

Powder Metallurgy Advantages

Powder metallurgy is well suited for high-volume production of planetary gear components and can provide efficient material utilization and near-net-shape manufacturing.

Key advantages include:

  • Efficient material utilization
  • Near-net-shape production
  • Consistent dimensional quality
  • Reduced machining requirements
  • Suitable for complex gear geometries
  • Cost-effective medium- and high-volume production
